Death of your Lake competition Checking TOC of notebook

Today students should have completed everything in the Death of Your Lake activity including their graph and the conclusion questions #1-5.
Students have a few minutes to make sure the last two items were in their science notebooks and update their TOC.

Death of your Lake

Today we completed an class activity on Death of Your Lake:  discussing water pollution and acid rain.  The powerpoint can be found here that I did with the class:  Death of your Lake scenerio

  We then did the activity together.  Tomorrow students will answer the conclusion questions

Cycles of Matter

Today we took notes on Cycles of Matter found here: Cycles of Matter PPT

We then went over the answers from last weeks quiz.  Students have gotten their responses by email. They can write any questions they got incorrect and turn them back in for half credit back.

 Lastly students received the Water, Nitrogen, Carbon, Phosphorus cycle packet.  We went over the expectation for this packet due 3/24.  Biogeochemical Cycle

Today students took a quiz on pollution and ecological successions.

Students then turned in their composition notebooks as well as the rest of the complete assignments from this week.  (from their classroom folders given out on Monday)

Folders with Work

This week student will be working on their multimedia project for their Capstone.  Therefore my work is independent all week.  Students received their folder with all of the papers needed for the week.
Each Assignment can be found here:

1. Ecological Succession Notes-  Students log into google classroom, completed notes on Ecological Succession and taped this into their lab notebooks and updated their TOC.  
2. Next two assignments are Gizmos:  explorelearning.com  Students are to complete the packet on Air Pollution and Greenhouse Effect.  
3. Greenhouse Effect  and Water Pollution  These are to be turned in 
4. Next assignment is Biological Magnificaition  Students need to watch this video first: Biological Magnificatin Then answer the questions and tape this into their composition notebook.
5. Lastly students created a fold-able on Ecological Succession.  Directions can be found on Google Classroom.

Completing Work

Today students completed the work from yesterday and were given a homework assignment called Crab Clean up.  The link can be found here:  Crab Clean Up

Wetland Fire Ecology

Today we completed this assignment started last week.  We learned to read the data tables to answer the 6 analysis questions and in the conclusion use the data to look at our hypothesis previously written.

Reminder Homework given out Thursday is due THIS WED!!! (except bell 1 due Friday).

Population Trends

Today students used the first half of class to complete the Population notes and Limiting factor activity from yesterday.

Then students worked on the Population Trends page from the Ecology Unit packet.
The graph and questions should be answered in their composition books labeled as Population Trends in the TOC

Population Notes

Today students completed the Deer:  Predation or Starvation activity from yesterday and turned it to the inbox.

Students updated their lab notebook as seen in the pictures with Taping the Population Cornell notes and writing their TOC and then completed the limited resources page in the ECOLOGY UNIT packet.

Ecology Unit

Today we started our new unit.  ECOLOGY. .  Students were given a small booklet to put into their composition notebooks and we started on page 1 as seen below.  This is based on page 64 of the textbook found at the bottom

Quiz and Taxonomy Project

Today students logged into Google Classroom and took the Taxonomy quiz.  After this short quiz student had the remainder of the bell to work on their Alien Taxonomy Project due Monday.

Reminder that Warm Up notebooks will be collected March 10th and composition notebooks will be collected March 11th.

Part 2b How to write a dichotomous Key

In their lab notebook, students will complete activity 2b.

Afterwards students had time to write their own dichotomous key for the Alien project page 8-9.

Reflection sheet and Alien Project

Today students did a one sheet paper on Where Does Oil Come From.

Student then had the remainder of the class to complete pages 3-7 in their Alien taxonomy project.  These pages should be done today in order for students to be able to work on pages 8 & 9 Thursday and 10 and 11 on Friday.

Reminder this is DUE MONDAY.  Each day students have had at least 10 minutes in class to work on this project but not all can be completed in class.  Students will have to (and have two weeks to) work at home as well.

Salamander Dichotomous Key
